The key to becoming an effective and successful country, said Peter Mansbridge, professor of management at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management, is having a strong business model.
“A strong business plan is critical,” he told Business Insider.
“You want to have a strong foundation of knowledge, an understanding of what your market is, what your customers want and where you want to go in the future.”
In the case of Canada, this means a solid strategy to grow the economy, to attract new business, and to make sure that Canadians have a job, which can’t just be temporary.
So to become successful in Canada, you have to be able to attract the right business.
“The key is to have an idea of where your business is going to go and how you can help them succeed,” Mansbridge said.
“How are you going to generate new revenue?”
In order to make it easy to attract a job to Canada, the best business models rely on three basic tenets: It must be in the right place, it must be relevant and it must attract the best talent.

“There are two types of benefits you get out of having an effective business model,” Mansbrid said.
The first benefit is that it creates a competitive advantage for a business, making it easier to attract and retain the best people.
“If you’re an entrepreneur and you can have that competitive advantage, then the success of your business becomes much more attractive,” he said.
This is the type of advantage that will attract talent, not only in the form of employees but also in the business itself.
The second benefit is to make an environment conducive to entrepreneurship and to help a company achieve its goals.
“There’s a lot of money to be made in business that doesn’t involve people in the way that there used to be,” Mansbroid said.
A strong business strategy can also provide the right level of certainty to the business.
A well-functioning business model can ensure that the business will be able meet the goals of the government, which in turn will help to build up the stock of goods and services that can be exported to the world.
In a country where government spending is high, businesses are able to provide their employees with a certain level of security in their job.
“One of the biggest things you can do is make sure your business model is not the most expensive one in your industry,” Mansbury said.
